Part-Time Building Inspector

The County of Houghton, Michigan is seeking applications for the position of a Part-Time Building Inspector. Applicants must have the qualifications, licensing, pass a background check, and have a valid Michigan Driver’s License. The Part-Time Building Inspector works directly with the Building Department Manager and Building Official. The successful candidate will have the ability to examine commercial, industrial and residential building plans for State of Michigan Code compliance and to inspect new construction projects and work in progress, also for compliance with State of Michigan Codes. In this role, the Inspector is also responsible for inspecting existing buildings for possible building code violations; prepares inspection reports; issues warnings and violations; appears in court when appropriate, and testifies as an expert witness. Medical Death Investigators

The County of Houghton, Michigan is seeking applications for the positions of Medical Death Investigator. These are part time and on-call positions, and members of the Death Investigative Team work under the guidance and directly with the Houghton County Medical Examiner, Dr. Petio Kotov. Applicants must pass a background check, and have a valid Michigan Driver’s License. Successful applicants must also be able to work in all weather conditions, in the evenings and overnights, and potentially at venues where a biological hazard would exist. The County’s Medical Death Investigators work directly with all local Hospitals, Law Enforcement, Emergency Services, Funeral Homes, and with the family members of the victims and the deceased. Prior healthcare experience and/or investigative experience is necessary and preferred.
